HD Chevalier is a queer photographic artist based in Montreal, QC (Tiohtiá:ke). His work explores narratives of over-consumption, climate, community, and identity through a theatrical lens. Working in analog, he creates complex dreamscapes using in-camera and darkroom manipulations to alter viewers sense of reality and perspectives. HD considers the materiality of photo to be a significant influence in his practice; honing in on the poetics of de-accelerated image creation to reclaim visuality and attention in the digital world.
He is currently enrolled at Concordia University’s Photography program, developing alternative photographic developers and fixatives using salts and organic restaurant waste. he is an active member in the Concordia Photography Collective: organizing student exhibitions, socials, and developing sustainability workshops for the community
